United Steelworkers (USW) District 4 recently had its first in-person health and safety training since the pandemic contributed to the closing of in-person training sessions.

The training on April 22, 2021, at Republic Steel was attended by 10 members from USW Local Union 2603 in Blasdell, N.Y. The district received positive feedback from the company, who said attendees received excellent information about crane safety.

Republic Steel is now interested in having union health and safety trainers present six more trainings on forklift, lockout tagout, fall protection, confined space, powered platforms and hot work safety.
